A unique answer to the need of a public space for the people of Delhi to meet and relax, the Garden of Five Senses is a 20 acre space conceived to provide a series of attractions to appeal to all the senses and to provide a respite from the daily grind of their lives. The garden is also the venue for a series of cultural and other festivals throughout the year during the different seasons in keeping with the theme of bringing the people of Delhi together.
Although the garden has several themed areas worthy of admiration, one of the most popular is the Khas Bagh a beautiful space developed in the style of a Mughal garden with tree and shrub lined walkways, water channels and fountains enhanced with the addition of modern lighting systems. A spiral walkway leads to another popular part of the park with restaurants, bars and shopping areas. One of the most refreshing sights in the park is Neel Bagh a water lily pond bordered by pergolas with trailing flowering vines. Ceramic wind chimes provide gentle background music adding a soothing note especially on hot summer days. Other attractions are the colour gardens, a collection of flowering shrubs and the Courts of Specimen Plants, a display of rare plants and herbs. The sculptures and murals by well known Indian artisans and craftspeople add colour to the space and are a feast for the eyes. Meanwhile the Solar Park provides information on renewable energy sources and displays solar powered vehicles and articles of everyday use. An amphitheater has been built into the natural slope of the site to hold cultural events and an exhibition space at the rear of the garden is a popular venue for art shows.
Visitors are encouraged to touch the displays, smell the flowers, taste the delicious food offerings, take in the undulating natural landscape and listen to the music of the wind chimes for a great sensory experience.
